Take the La Trobe Writing Challenge

Running from November 11th – 22nd, 2013, the La Trobe November Writing Challenge is a two week academic writing initiative supported by the RED Unit. The Writing Challenge encourages participants to set writing goals that are achievable within the two week challenge period, to make those goals public and to report their progress and achievements to a community of academic peers.

The Challenge has been devised to coincide with Academic Writing Month (AcWriMo), a month-long writing challenge hosted by PhD2Publish. You can find out more information about AcWriMo here: http://www.phd2published.com/2013/10/09/announcing-acwrimo-2013/ According to Charlotte Frost, who writes for PhD2Publish, AcWriMo has helped academics to adopt more reflective approaches to writing, to build better writing habits and to shape supportive trans-disciplinary research and writing networks. Through a variety of social media platforms, AcWriMo has enabled participants to dilute the isolation of writing by unpacking the challenges that arise in the writing process and sharing useful resources.

Here is an interesting blog post about a recent convert to Academic Writing Month, Dr Inger Mewburn: http://thesiswhisperer.com/2012/10/23/why-i-changed-my-mind-about-acwrimo/. She suggests that an organized group writing activity like AcWriMo can provide an opportunity to nurture and re-engage with the writing process. Your participation in the La Trobe November Writing Challenge will be supported through daily emails and regular blog posts that will include reflections on writing from prominent La Trobe academics, along with strategies to improve and challenge how and what you write. The aim of the Writing Challenge is to make academic writing more generative and enjoyable by creating a supportive research and writing culture at La Trobe University.

Register your interest in participating and document your writing goals at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C5Y6YVY

We will check in on your progress mid-way through and at the conclusion of the second week.
