November is LTU Academic Writing Month

Academic Writing Month starts on Wednesday 1 Nov (with a workshop and afternoon tea launch) and runs through to Thursday 30 November (with a closing afternoon tea with the Graduate Research Students Society (GRSS) and the Student Union).

In between there will be a number of special events focusing on academic writing by researchers, including:
You can sign up for the newsletter, or drop in and chat with us on Twitter at the end of each week to let us know how things are going and get set up for the next week at #LTUacwrimo. Here on the blog we will feature La Trobe researchers talking about their writing each week.

But the other really important thing about #LTUAcWriMo is the way it allows us to highlight the support that La Trobe offers for academic writing throughout the year.

All Campus Shut Up and Write is a chance to put a spotlight on the work of the Shut Up and Write coordinators on every campus and online, making sure that everyone has a chance, every week, to write with colleagues in a productive environment. (Read more about Shut Up and Write.)

In Bendigo, a Super Writing Circle powers up a regular Writing Circle of researchers who meet to talk about their writing, encourage each other to produce work, and get feedback. A number of Schools currently run writing circles for staff and graduate researchers--if you would like to start your own you can use this Writing Circle guide  or talk to the RED Team about how to set one up.

Graduate Researchers on Shepparton campus applied for competitive Intellectual Climate Funding to run a one-day writing retreat. The purpose of the Intellectual Climate Fund is to encourage graduate researchers to lead a range of academic, social and cultural activities that will seed or enhance a stimulating intellectual climate and supportive network within their local graduate research community.

The regular workshops run by RED, Library, Research Platforms, Research Office and LTLT every week, on campus, via Zoom, and Video Conference, also get their moment of recognition in the workshops being run during #LTUAcWriMo

So November is a moment to celebrate writing, to get some words down or polished or submitted, but also a chance to celebrate the work researchers and graduate researchers do every week, and the work that Schools, Colleges, Research Centres, and central teams like RED do to promote academic writing every day for everyone. We hope AcWriMo is a chance for you to discover more about these opportunities, and to build them into your habits for the rest of the year and into 2018.

Whatever your writing plans, whether they are special big plans for November or just getting on with things as you have been through the year, may you have a productive month. Happy LTUAcWriMo!
